Architectural Portraits

My father practiced architecture for 40 years. As a boy, I was forever accompanying him touring his latest buildings and houses. He would always be photographically documenting his projects while they were under construction as well as in their completed state. As such, I was being unwittingly indoctrinated in the the "Tao of Architecture" and would forever more cast a critical eye on how architecture could influence the world. It certainly influenced me! As a teenager, I was a draftsman in his firm and learned precisely what it was that architects do and how they interact with their clients. Later he would engage me to shoot projects for his firm's portfolio using his 4x5 Linhof Technica and darkroom equipment.

With such an upbringing it's no wonder that I have architectural photography in my blood. But why "Architectural Portraits"? Simply put, buildings have personality. They have prominent features (and not-so-prominent features). They have their "better sides". They also have "good days" and "bad days", just like people. But unlike people, a structure's persona is largely defined by the context of its environment -- and the environment is ever changing. Good architecture strives for an elegant balance -- yin and yang if you like. It both influences and is influenced by its environment. They are one and the same. Just like individuals, architectural projects need an artist to interpret them in their best light. This is what I do. And I do it with passion and years of practice.

Today I am available for commission to create Architectural Portraits for discerning clients that capture the true essence of any design, be it an obscure detail or a large complex. Please feel free to email me or phone for an opportunity to see my award-winning Architectural Portraits in print.
